To separate it from the homonymous location in the northwest of Corfu, it is also known as Agios Georgios of the South. About three decades ago, the beach was desolate and the village had almost no permanent residents. Visitors came from resorts nearby solely to swim in the crystal clear waters and to make unforgettable memories on the wild and pristine beach before their departing.
Today, it is a well-organized tourist region that offers not only numerous ways of entertaining oneself such as water sports and pedal boats, many hotels, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, but it is also the perfect place for one to relax on a sunbed under an umbrella on the beach. What is more, there is access to supermarkets, and all kinds of shops on the road parallel to the beach.
The beach expands for about 8 kilometres and is divided into two sections by a small port in the middle: the northern part, which borders on the beach of Issos, and the southern part, which borders on the beach of Marathias. Both beaches have fine sand and shallow waters making it ideal for children. There you can also find all the amenities needed to enjoy in comfort the sunny days on the beach. Those who have chosen Agios Giorgios as a vacation destination also have the opportunity to easily access the neighbouring beaches of Issos or Marathias as well as the nearby lake Korissia by bike or on foot.
In short, Agios Giorgios has been transformed into a seaside area suitable for families with children or couples looking for relaxing vacations, and night outs. It has a large and beautiful beach that, despite its evolution it still remains quite relaxing and offers everything necessary to please those who choose it as a vacation destination.
